Code of Conduct
Introduction
The Kennel Club of Pakistan (KCP) is committed to promoting responsible dog ownership, ethical breeding practices, and the welfare of purebred dogs. This Code of Conduct establishes the standards of behavior expected from all members, breeders, exhibitors, handlers, dog owners, officials, and participants involved in activities conducted under the auspices of KCP.
Compliance with this Code of Conduct is mandatory. Any violation shall be considered a breach of the Rules and Regulations of the Kennel Club of Pakistan and may result in disciplinary action by the KCP Disciplinary Committee, including suspension, cancellation of privileges, or any other action deemed appropriate under the KCP Rules and Regulations.
This Code of Conduct applies to:
- All members of the Kennel Club of Pakistan.
- All owners of dogs or kennels registered with KCP.
- All breeders, exhibitors, handlers, and participants in events sanctioned by KCP or its affiliated clubs.
- All show organizers and officials appointed by KCP or its affiliated clubs.
Purpose
The objectives of this Code of Conduct are to:
- Promote responsible and ethical dog breeding.
- Protect the health, welfare, and well-being of dogs.
- Safeguard the interests of dog owners and breeders.
- Uphold the integrity, reputation, and objectives of the Kennel Club of Pakistan.
- Encourage fairness, respect, and good sportsmanship at dog shows and canine events.
Responsibilities of Dog Owners and Breeders
Welfare of Dogs
All dog owners and breeders must ensure that their dogs are maintained in a healthy environment and are provided with:
- Proper nutrition and clean drinking water.
- Safe, clean, and suitable housing.
- Appropriate exercise and socialization.
- Necessary veterinary care and medical treatment.
Breeding Practices
All breeding activities must be conducted in accordance with the KCP Breeding Rules and Regulations.
Breeders are expected to prioritize the health, temperament, welfare, and preservation of their breeds and shall avoid breeding practices that may adversely affect the quality or well-being of dogs.
Honest Representation
No breeder or dog owner shall make false, misleading, or exaggerated claims regarding any dog. All statements concerning a dog's age, registration status, pedigree, health status, show achievements, and breeding record must be truthful, accurate, and capable of verification.
Registration Documents
When a registered dog is sold or transferred, the breeder or seller must provide all relevant KCP documentation, including:
- Registration Certificate
- Pedigree Certificate
- Transfer documentation, where applicable
If these documents are not immediately available, they must be provided to the new owner within two months of the date of sale or transfer.
Conduct at Dog Shows
Sportsmanship
All exhibitors, handlers, and participants shall conduct themselves in a courteous, respectful, and sportsmanlike manner at all times. Any behavior that disrupts the orderly conduct of a show or seeks to gain an unfair advantage is prohibited.
Fair Competition
No exhibitor or handler shall distract, interfere with, or otherwise disadvantage another dog or competitor inside or outside the ring.
Communication with Judges
Except for confirming the age or class eligibility of a dog, exhibitors and handlers shall not provide judges with information relating to ownership, pedigree, or previous awards or achievements. This provision shall not apply to shows conducted by affiliated breed clubs where club regulations specifically permit judges to review pedigrees.
Respect for Judges' Decisions
No competitor shall, by word, gesture, action, or public statement, display disrespect, hostility, or improper dissent regarding a judge's decision. Any concerns regarding judging or show procedures must be submitted through the official complaint process established by KCP.
Show Integrity
No person shall disrupt, obstruct, or attempt to stop a KCP-sanctioned event through frivolous complaints, misrepresentation of facts, intimidation, or any other improper conduct.
KCP-Sanctioned Events
Unauthorized Shows
No person shall organize, promote, officiate at, participate in, or support any dog show that has not been sanctioned or authorized by the Kennel Club of Pakistan.
Participation in KCP Events
Every dog owner has the right to decide whether or not to participate in any KCP-sanctioned event. However, no person shall encourage, pressure, persuade, or organize others to boycott or refrain from participating in KCP-sanctioned events.
Participation in Non-Sanctioned Shows
Penalty for Participation in Unauthorized Shows
The Kennel Club of Pakistan recognizes only those events that have been officially sanctioned or authorized by KCP. If a dog is entered in or participates in a dog show that has not been sanctioned by KCP, disciplinary action may be taken in accordance with the KCP Rules and Regulations.
Such action may include:
- Deregistration of the dog from KCP records.
- Ineligibility of the dog to participate in future KCP-sanctioned events.
- Refusal of registration of progeny produced by such dog.
- Suspension of privileges granted to the owner, breeder, handler, or any other person involved.
- Any additional sanctions deemed appropriate by the KCP Managing Committee or Disciplinary Committee.
The decision of the Kennel Club of Pakistan in such matters shall be final and binding, subject to any appeal procedures provided under the KCP Rules and Regulations.
