Responsible Dog Ownership
Buying a Puppy Responsibly
How to find a responsible breeder — and how to avoid puppy farms.
Where your puppy comes from matters enormously. A puppy raised with care by a responsible breeder is more likely to be healthy, well-socialised and a joy to live with. A puppy produced only for profit often carries hidden health and behaviour problems.
Take your time, ask questions, and never feel pressured. A responsible breeder will welcome your questions and will have many of their own for you.

Buy directly from a responsible breeder
Deal with the person who bred and raised the litter, not a middleman. Responsible breeders care where their puppies go and stay in touch afterwards.
Visit the breeder in person
See where the puppies were born and raised. The environment should be clean, warm and part of a normal home, and the puppies should look bright, active and well cared for.
Always meet the puppy's mother
Seeing the mother tells you a great deal about temperament, health and how the litter was raised. Be very cautious if you are not allowed to meet her.
Ask about health tests and vaccinations
Ask which health screenings are recommended for the breed, whether the parents were tested, and what vaccinations and deworming the puppy has already received.
Request the pedigree and registration
A responsible breeder will provide the puppy's pedigree and registration details and explain them clearly. Ask to see the paperwork before you commit.
Never choose on price alone
A cheaper puppy is not a bargain if it comes from poor breeding. The lowest price often hides the highest long-term cost in veterinary bills and heartache.
Avoid sellers who hide the puppies
Walk away from anyone who wants to meet in a car park, will not show you the litter with its mother, or pressures you to pay quickly. These are the clearest warning signs of a puppy farm.
Why this matters
Every puppy purchased from an irresponsible breeder encourages unethical breeding practices. By choosing a responsible breeder you help improve the welfare of dogs in Pakistan.
